Our Recommendations

Housing requirements.

Here at Girlypig rescue, we pride ourselves in ensuring that the guinea pigs you are adopting will have the best life they deserve with you. This will start with us asking what housing you have set up or what housing you are planning on getting.

Unfortunately there is a lot of mis-information out there still within the guinea pig community. Guinea pigs need space, more than you would think. All pet store cages you can buy instore are unsuitable because they are too small. Unfortunately pet shops sell and will recommend cages and items that are unsuitable and some even dangerous for pets.

Our minimum size we will accept as housing is a ferplast Krolik plaza 160×60. These cages you can also add onto with extensions. This is the only “pet store” cage I accept.

C&C cages are the best for your guinea pigs and can be adapted to go as big as youd like!

We do accept outdoor hutches, but please contact us about this information.

Here is an example of the ferplast at 160×60.

Here is an example of the ferplast with an extension added on. This makes it 200×60.

This is a kavee 2×4 cage which meets our minimum requirements.

Above are some ideas on different sizes and ways you can have your cages. Some with lids, some without, some with lofts, some stacked. The list is endless with these cages.

We are aware that the Kavee prices are quite high. Amazon have C&C grids widely available for a fraction of the price. A quick search for grids will bring up lots to choose from. If ordering from amazon please check the grids you are buying have 9 squares, any less than this guinea pigs can get their heads stuck. Wickes sell the equivalent on the coroplast which you can buy and easily cut to size to fit the size and shape of your diy cage.
